One of the most frustrating aspects of home recording is how you get your finished material to sound as "loud" as commercially produced recordings. This is actually a highly skilled process which is undertaken by professional matering engineers. However, with the fall in price of semi-professional digital recording technology, you can achieve good results without spending a fortune, but you still need to know what you are doing. Digital editing allows very precise cuts and changes to be made to audio material. It can be as simple as removing hesitations, stutters or mistakes from spoken word. It could be the restructuring of a song, or piecing together a number of pre-recorded segments to make a logical sequence. Material recorded using analogue technology - cassette tape or reel to reel - can also be cleaned up (or enhanced) prior to editing, to make the finished product sound even more professional. | |
