This was taken when his dad (George Hind) was visiting in the late 80s and took a trip down the "garden route" to Cape Town.
In the background is the famous Bloukrans Bridge - which now hosts the world's highest commercial bridge bungee jump (I don't think they did that).
Here he is at home with their dogs, Kimmy and Jasper, which was taken in August 1986 when they were still pups.
For someone, who by his own admission, could't sing or dance, dad appeared in a lot of charity shows staged by the local branch of Round Table.
Having seen a video of one of the shows I have to admit, he was right, but full marks for effort and enthusiasm.
Here he is building a model sailing ship, he always had a tremendous amount of patience for this sort of fine work, definitely the engineer gene.
The ship made it all the way back to the UK, in one piece, and is now a much loved ornament at my house.
I don't know where this photo was taken, but it was March 1992, during another one of grandpa's visits.
It was quite a surprise to find a photo of dad with a moustache, I didn't realise he'd had another attempt after his "Edmunds" beard in 1980.
This is dad and Jenny on their wedding day, the reception was hosted at their friends' house in Jo'burg.
I only learned this at dad's memorial, while looking through some old photos with Mozi and Jane.
This was taken during our only visit, in April 1984.
We (Grandpa, my brother Matt and me) had just landed at Jan Smuts airport (now known as O.R.Tambo Airport) after a 14-hour, non-stop flight from Heathrow.
Grandpa was a seasoned traveller, but this was my first flight and I was quite nervous - I don't think I managed to get any sleep!
This was also taken during our visit in 1984.
Thanks to grandpa's very well organised photo albums I know it was our first "braai", at a place called Fountain Valley.
Dad was an excellent cook and loved his barbecues, I was a bigger fan of his home made chocolate cakes.
Matjiesfontein is a tiny historic village in the Karoo region, the name translates roughly to "little mats spring" or "reed-mat fountain".

All dressed up for a night on the town, again I don't know when it was or where they were going after this photo was taken.
This one was taken during a visit back to the UK, in October 1990 according to the note on the back of the photo.
They were sitting grandpa's garden, in Worksop, enjoying a swift half on an unseasonally sunny day.
This was probably taken during the following vist, which must have been in 1993/94.
It would be the last time that the four of us were together, as grandpa died in late 1995.
Again, another unidentified location in S.A.
I'm hoping an old friend from those days might recognise it.
I do remember this photo being taken (September 1990), when we were walking along the sea front in Cowes on the Isle of Wight - where I was doing my summer work placement.
The t-shirt I'm wearing bears the logo of the first serious band I was in, which is quite fitting as it was dad who first introduced me to rock and metal music via Tommy Vance's Friday rock show on radio one in the early 80s.
An interesting footnote - I was working for Plessey, one of the companies that tried to buy English Electric back in 1968, around the time dad was finishing his apprenticeship there.

I think this may have been grandpa's last visit there in the early 90s - he passed away in late 1995 but was very active up until that last year.
Another night on the town, also from that last visit I am guessing.
At this time I think dad and Jenny were living in Olivedale in the Ranburg area of the outskirts of Jo'burg.
I've just looked it up on Google maps - interestingly many of the roads have names such as Paula, Reuben, Leonard and Rose.

One more from the days of the Round Table charity shows, unfortunately there is no information with it, so I'm hoping some will recognise it and let me know what year/show it was.
I don't know if the note is from this show, but it was attached to the photo so I left it on there.
I remember seeing photos of this bar as dad was building it, a reminder where I got my DIY skills from, although I don't have his patience or attention to detail for building models!
The note on the back of the photo says "On our way to a sixties dance Aug", come on dad you could at least have worn a flower power shirt or flares, I bet you did back in the day even though I have no photographic evidence... yet!
The last photo in this section (for now) is another appearance by the intrepid explorers.
Judging by the background I suspect it might be Cape Town, but it's a bit hazy.
