Although he retired he didn't stop working.
After moving to Newark he started working part-time as an exam invigilator for the local college.
His favourite invigilation duty was at the Newark Violin School, which was based in the old Magnus grammar school building, where he was a student in the late 50s and early 60s.
Sadly the school is currently under threat of closure, which would be a tragedy, so please visit their website and lend your support, for dad.
Visiting Mozi and Jane in North Yorkshire, pictured here with their old friends Lynn and Dennis from their days in Jo'burg.
It was Dennis who lent dad the VW Camper Van (Combi) that we toured the country in, back in 1984.
It had a top speed of 50 mph and the brake fluid needed topping up several times, but it did the job.
Some serious barbecue action in North Yorkshire, not quite the same weather they used to enjoy for a braai in the South Africa days.
Here is my brother Matt enjoying a beer and a catch-up with dad, not sure when or where.
Unfortunately no information with this photo, but it looks like some sort of party at a hotel or in a function room, perhaps their retirement party.
Again I'm not sure when or where this photo was taken, a day out or a holiday trip.
This was taken during dad and Jenny's last proper holiday, in the summer of 2018 I think.
Unfortunately, due to declining health they started to travel less, but enjoyed another good seven years together.
Dad spent his last six months back in Worksop, first at the hospital then at the Old Vicarage care home.
He recalled playing tennis there, and I suggested that when he felt up to it we could have a game (which he found funny) and I'm sure he'd still have beaten me.
The staff at the hospital and the care home were great and really looked after him, it was nice to hear from them how much they enjoyed talking to him - in particular their days in S.A.
This is the last photo of us together, taken in the autumn of 2024.
In the November I delivered a presentation about the development of computers and how they are starting to be built into almost everything.
I always present the timeline of computer history in the context of dad's life, he was born two months after the Colossus "computer" went into service at Bletchley Park in 1944 and he assembled the first computer I ever used...
And here is that very Acorn Atom computer from 1980, which is now in the Jim Austin Computer Collection as a lasting memorial to Dad, and the amazing journey he started me on.
The brass plaque (installed 14 July 2026) reads: Built in Spring 1980 by Mr. Peter Frank Hind (27 March 1944 to 27 September 2025) Born in a world with one "computer".
